World Thamil Organization, Inc. is alarmed at the news that Dr. Garga Chatterjee is facing imminent threat of jail, torture and murder or extra-judicial ‘encounter’ in Assam because of a Tweet he posted which contains a true historical fact. We demand that suitable protection be given to him from this impending atrocious action against him.

Dr. Chatterjee is an acclaimed scholar and well-known academic. He is known as an outspoken political analyst and anti-BJP TV media commentator in leading English, Bengali, Hindi channels and a widely published political essayist and author whose articles are regularly published in 4 languages ( English, Bengali, Tamil and Hindi) in leading dailies and magazines across several countries of South Asia.

Dr. Chatterjee is a resident of Kolkata, West Bengal. He is a trained physician (MBBS) from Calcutta Medical College. He also has a PhD in Psychology from Harvard University, USA, and he did his post-doctoral research work at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA.

Dr. Chatterjee has been for some time a target of hateful vendetta by the BJP and its allied organizations and even BJP senior leaders who hold high positions of power and authority. There is credible evidence to take him to Assam under the pretext of a false case and then torture and kill him or get him killed by others, inside jail or outside.

Every citizen has the most precious constitutional right of life, liberty & Freedom of Speech and not be tortured and killed by the State machinery abusing its political and administrative powers in violation of the Constitutional mandates.

World Thamil Organization, Inc. appeals to the citizens of India, the media and those connected with judiciary and human rights in particular to voice their strongest support and do everything they can to save Dr. Garga Chatterjee’s life.
